Departed Brooklyn for France aboard the Delta, 11 Aug 1918. At the time, he was a corporal in Company A, 350th Infantry.
350th INFANTRY REGIMENT, 88th INFANTRY DIVISION was constituted 5 August 1917 in the National Army as the 350th Infantry and assigned to the 88th Division. Organized 27 August 1917 at Camp Dodge, IA; demobilized 5-8 June 1919 at Camp Dodge.
The Regimental Headquarters, Headquarters Company, the 1st Battalion, Medical Detachment, Machine Gun Company and Supply Company of the 350th Infantry, which sailed on H. M.S. Delta on 11 Aug 1918, arriving at Tilbury-on-Thames, 25 Aug, and at Cherbourg, 29 Aug.
The first regiments to occupy the trenches with the French were the 350th and 351st Infantry regiments. Each placed two battalions in the front line and one in support. The first casualties in action in the Division came on the night of October 12th-13th when the enemy launched a raid on the 2d Battalion.
The north half of the division sector saw little of the enemy during the month of October. On 19 Oct, the 3rd Battalion of the 349th Infantry relieved the 1st Battalion of the 350th Infantry in the Center of Resistance Gildwiller and the 3d Battalion of the 350th Infantry took over the Center of Resistance Balschwiller from the 2d Battahon of the same regiment at approximately the same time. By this time, the Germans had been sufficiently impressed with the fighting qualities of the Americans to keep carefully out of hand-to-hand range. As a result, there was httle further activity on their part aside from occasional patrol, few of which ever penetrated our wire.
The American troops, on the other hand, entered No-Man's Land every night almost where they pleased. The German trenches were frequently explored and all sorts of German equipment, including gas alarms, telephone apparatus, and trench signs were brought back as souvenirs.
The 3rd Battalion, 350th Infantry, was relieved in Center of Resistance Balschwiller by the 2d Battalion, 349th Infantry, on 29 Oct.
Little else could be found on the unit's war experience.
Served as a private first class in the 88th Military Police Group, Military Police Corps before returning to the US, and thereafter served with them at Camp Dodge, IA.
As a private first class, he sailed aboard the USS Konigen der Netherlanden from St. Nazaire, France on 22 May 1919, and arrived at Newport News.

Elements of the Texas National Guard were assembled at Camp Bowie (near Fort Worth), Texas, during the period 11 April - 9 May 1917. The Texas National Guard and The Oklahoma National Guard were combined to form the 36th Infantry Division. The significant date during World War I was 15 Oct 1917, when the 143d Infantry Regiment was formed from the 3d Infantry (less the Machine Gun Company), Texas National Guard and the Fifth Infantry, Texas National Guard.
The 143d Infantry Regiment, as a part of the 36th Infantry Division, arrived in France during the early summer of 1918. The Regiment was first stationed at Bar-sur-Aube in a training assignment. On 26 Sep 1917, it was shipped by rail to an area between Epernay and Chalons-sur-Marne, where it was the reserve of the French group of Armies of the Center.
The Division was transferred on 3 Oct to the Fourth French Army where the Second Infantry Division (American) was already serving. The 143d Infantry was first placed in the line on 10 Oct by relieving an infantry regiment of the Second Infantry Division. With the Second Division Artillery supporting, the 143d Infantry received its baptism of fire in an attack about 6 p.m. on 10 Oct when they attacked near St. Etienne. The Regiment attacked in the direction of Machault and Cauray with success. The next day the enemy began their retreat to the north in the direction of Dricourt and Attigny. The Regiment, as part of the 72d Infantry Brigade, took up the pursuit and lively rear guard actions followed between St. Etienne and Machault, which resulted in the encircling of the latter town and the establishment of a new firm Allied Line. The following day, 12 Oct, the Regiment continued its relentless attack and gained control of the northern bank of the Aisne. The Regiment maintained strong contact with the enemy until it was relieved by other Allied forces about 28 Oct. The Regiment was assembled as a part of the 36th Infantry Division in the Suippes-Somme-Suippes area and from this point moved to the Triaucourt areas. It remained here as a unit of the First American Army until the signing of the Armistice.
Shortly after conclusion of hostilities, the Regiment moved to Tonnerre and remained here until 26 Apr 1919, when it started embarking at Brest for return to the United States. The Regiment had spent 23 days in action, none of them in quiet sectors. The Regiment, as part of the Division, is credited with the freeing of Rheims. The total advance of the Division was 13.8 miles; total prisoners captured, 813; total material captured; 3 pieces heavy artillery, 6 pieces light artillery, 17 trench mortars and 277 machine guns. The value of enemy ammunition captured was $10 million.
