When a new settler came to the town, they found that the old log cabin was exactly what they wnated, and were told that it belonged to Charles, who was then apparently in Portage, WI. The person who wanted it, Benjamine Dey, approached Charles to purchase the house. Charles asked if Dey's intent was to sell it, or to settle on it and improve it. When he was told that the reason was the latter, Charles said he was welcome to the claim.
