Edward M. TEMPLE92695 was born in 1807.92696 He lived in TN in 1833. He died on 26 December 1870 at the age of 63 in Memphis, Shelby, TN.92696 Buried in Elmwood Cemetery, Memphis, TN, Plot: Lot 427, grave 6, Chapel Hill. Association with this family is based on his appearance, with Lucy S. Temple, in the will of William Temple, and his burial with many of the family. However, he is apparently buried in a plot different from Lucy's, and in close proximity to Julia W. Temple. Julia was an infant, and seems related to the line of Jonathan H. and Catherine (Maltbie) Temple of Memphis, the only family of Temples having children at that time. Edward is too old to be her father, but could barely be the father of Jonathan, or more likely an elder sibling. In the same plot is one Arianna, dates unknown but who died before 1861, and whose grave lies next to Julia's, even though she cannot be her mother, though she may be Edward's wife. Parents: William TEMPLE-23166 and Lucy S. -35521.

Edward died on 7 May 1943 at the age of 84 in Dayton, Montgomery, OH.92717,92718 Ohio death records indicate he died in Dayton, OH in 1943, but some other research also gave 21 Jun 1957. Buried in Deer Creek Township Cemetery, Lafayette, OH. He has reference number RLT # U2129.9724 His parents were both from OH. Easily confused with the husband of Catherine Wilson, though he is not a farmer as her husband was. The deciding factor in assigning this Edward and his family to the family of Thomas and Mary Jane Temple, is that they were enumerated together in 1880, along with Edward's grandfather, giving a clear link to four generations. Parents: Thomas TEMPLE-24585 and Mary Jane WARD-43782.

Spouse: Florence May (Florence) MC CLIMANS-45634. Buried in Peoli Cemetery, Peoli, OH. Edward has reference number RLT # (None).3129 He did not know where his parents were from in 1910. His parents were both from OH in other censuses.

There were two Edward M. Temples born about the same time in OH (except one of them, who married Florence Mc Climans, also claimed birth in VA.) Edward was at one time placed as the son of James B. and Elizabeth Temple due to his claim, and his mother's claim (she by then being Mrs. Elizabeth Alloway), to that effect in his marriage papers with Margaret Shaw. But there is another solution to his identity.

His obituary of 21 Jun 1957 specifically named him the son of William and Elizabeth (Lanning) Temple. That creates a birth date conflict with the marriage date shown for his parents. I believe the mystery is solved by looking at the son of John Lanning and Elizabeth Temple - Edward Lanning. He has the same birth information as Edward Milton Temple and may be the same person. Parents: William Harvey (Will) TEMPLE-41178 and Elizabeth Jane (Eliza/Lida) LANNING-44754.

Spouse: Margaret Playford (Maggie) SHAW-49803. Margaret Playford (Maggie) SHAW and Edward Milton (Edward) TEMPLE were married on 11 September 1884 in Guernsey Co., OH.71951,71953 Edward claimed to be 20 and Margaret 17 when they married. They modified the family lineage claim in their license and said they were not nearer than second cousins. With the available data, it is not clear how that connection worked. Children were: Hollie Edna TEMPLE-49813, Eva Mae (Mae) TEMPLE-49814, Cecelia Belle (Celia) TEMPLE-49801, Grace Ethel (Gracie) TEMPLE-49815, Walter Ray (Ray) TEMPLE-49798, Victor Shaw (Victor) TEMPLE-49796, Sarah Ann TEMPLE-61837.

At the time of his wedding he was a Leading Seaman in the Royal Canadian Navy and had been overseas for 30 months. He was probably to spend the remainder of the war in the RCN. Gave his age as 9 in 1860. He appeared in the census in 1850 in Reading, Middlesex, MA.12543 He appeared in the census in June 1860 in Reading, Middlesex, MA.33873 In July 1870 Edward was a cotton mill clerk in Nashua, Hillsborough, NH.92725 He moved before 1874 in Nashua, Hillsborough, NH.1053 In June 1900 he was a paymaster in Nashua, Hillsborough, NH.38330 In April 1910 Edward was a cotton mill paymaster in Nashua, Hillsborough, NH.92724 He died on 1 March 1912 at the age of 63 in Nashua, Hillsborough, NH.23,92723,92726 Died of cerebral hemorrhage and chronic pancreatitis. Buried in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Reading, MA. Susan (Bean) Temple's death certificate said she was married to Edward Temple. The only Edward Temple of comparable age - by several decades - in NH in 1910 was Edward M. Temple. However, in 1910, he said he was divorced. In Susan's death certificate, she is said to have been the widow of Edward - implying they had married some time earlier, but they did not appear in any census together. So, the alternatives are that she married Edward after the 1900 census, but divorced him before 1910, or she married him after the 1910 census. The other alternative is that the NH death certificate for Susan was in error about the name of her husband. See Susan for further details. Parents: Roswell Newman (Roswell) TEMPLE-5674 and Zebiah Ann (Zebiah) FISHER-6041.

Spouse: Emilie J. GRANT-25868. Emilie J. GRANT and Edward Morris (Edward) TEMPLE were married on 26 March 1874 in Nashua, Hillsborough, NH.1053,38329 This was a first marriage for both. Edward P. TEMPLE92731 was born in March 1860 in NJ.72941,72944,72946,92731,92732,92733 Gave Mar 1860 in 1900, but when he arrived back in the US at Ellis Island in 1914, he claimed May 1861. Also claimed NY at times and that was reflected in his obituary which said the place was New York City. He appeared in the census in July 1870 in Ellsworth, Hamilton, IA.92733 Enumerated with Oliver H. and Kate Temple, apparently as their son, but also apparently too old to be their son. Also in the home was a William Temple of NY, whose relationship is also unclear. Seemed to be Edmund in 1870. His parents were from NY (father) and England (mother). His middle initial also appears as B. He must be the stepson enumerated with his parents in 1880 as E.A. Pinkney, which explains his middle initial. Since his mother, Elizabeth, later claimed to have had 5 children who survived, and he was one of those 5, then he must have been Elizabeth's son from a prior marriage.
His obituary said he was "one of the best known American stage directors...Temple acted as one of the general stage directors on the producing staff of Lee & J.J. Shubert, and while working for this firm he staged the musical play, 'Maytime.' When the same form operated the Hippodrome, Mr. Temple was general stage director."
As a "youth (he) served as call boy at Daly's Theatre. This marked the beginning of a career which enlisted his services first as an actor and later as a director. At the age of 21 he was Lillian Russell's leading man and created many roles in popular musical comedies of the day." Parents: Oliver S. TEMPLES-94525 and Elizabeth TRENCH-94526.
