Apparently, the shooting had to do with George trying to collect payment for work he had done. John H. (Jack) Farrell, bartender of the tavern at Stittsville, was arrested for the shooting, which took place in his tavern.

Middle initial in 1880 was F and on his grave marker. His parents were both from PA. There were two George Temples in PA who were first cousins and who might be confused for each other. One was George F. b 1872 PA, of Franklin Twp., son of Joseph and Anna. The other was George F or P, b 1875 PA, of Jordan Twp., son of Wesley and Lavina. While the son of Wesley is most consistent with the census and other information, there is a chance that their data should be the other way around. Parents: Wesley E. George Peabody TEMPLE48320 was born on 8 December 1861 in Lauderdale Co., MS.48322,48323,57075,57077 The Mount Carmel cemetery records give 8 Dec 1859, but the year must be wrong, since he does not appear in the 1860 census. In the 1870 census, he was given as 8 years of age. So, while I suspect the providers of the cemetery data knew his birthday, they may not have known the year. What appears here is a synthesis of the birthday and the 1870 birth year. He appeared in the census in June 1870 in Big Oak, Lauderdale, MS.48322 He appeared in the census in June 1880 in Lauderdale Co., MS.48323 George died on 27 December 1899 at the age of 38 in Lauderdale Co., MS.57075,57077,85499 Buried in Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Cemetery, Lauderdale Co., MS. Some sources indicate his gravestone death date is 17 Dec 1893, but this is not correct. That date does not allow for his being the father of Lillian and George (#2). Some sources, such as his Masonic Lodge, give 22 Dec 1899, but also give his middle initial as C. Based on Masonic Lodge records, where he is given as George C. Temple, there seems some sort of confusion. A grave marker in Mt. Carmel, MS, gives a death date that is not correct for George Temple, who could not have died in 1893. George C. Temple, however, died in Dec 1899. Parents: John Wesley Foster (Wesley) TEMPLE Sr.-16956 and Sarah Alice JONES-18537.
