Some secondary sources give her last name as Frey, but this appears to be a misreading of the Census records. A strong case can and has been made that she and her children are those belonging to James Alfred Temple. However, James Alfred was born in 1861, and it seems Sarah Ivey was associated with a James A. Temple born in 1860, making him the son of John H. Temple. It is especially hard to differentiate them, because both are James A. Temples, and both are associated with fathers who fought in the Civil War for AR, so the pension records don't help. In favor of this James A. is the fact that in the 1870 census, he appears as Allen, not James or James A., and yet returns to being James A. in the 1880 census of the same family in Pennington Co., AR. There is little doubt that Sarah Ivey married the James A. born in 1860, and that makes him the son of John H. and Martha Temple.

Her parents were from SC (father) and TN (mother). By 1900, she had had 6 children, all of whom survived, which remained true in 1910. Parents: James IVEY-26683 and Laura REASONS-26684.
