Of the three TEMPLE families listed, two are identified as the issue of Major TEMPLE, leaving only Luke to be the father of Jordan. Furthermore, the timing also works for Luke to be Jordan's father. Alan's reasoning extended to the marriage records of the time, which indicate that the 3 marriages around 1835 of TEMPLE issue might be from Luke. A problem exists in that the other children of Luke were from TN. I have found Jordan in the 1840 census, apparently enumerated in Greene County, TN, (as Geordon) which strengthens the argument in favor of a relationship to Luke, who was in Greene County through the 1830 census.

Joyce Temple Barnett, in Temple People Vol. II, considers Jordan as possibly the son of Robert Temple and Elizabeth Powell. This possibility is strengthened by the name of Jordan's first son -- Robert, and the fact that none of the children is named for Luke or the other children of Luke. Nevertheless, there is no such naming pattern for the people in Robert's family beyond Robert himself. Regardless of that, the birthplace of NC for Jordan fits better with the family of Robert and Elizabeth. He did report that differently at times, however, since the 1850 census shows TN, but the 1880 shows NC for himself and his parents. Elizabeth was from NC, and the migration path was often south from VA before moving into TN. Also, at least one of the other children was born in NC.

Consequently, Jordan could fit in either family, and the relationship needs to be proved. Parents: Robert TEMPLE-18529 and Elizabeth POWELL-21842.

Joreador C. TEMPLE was born in 1906.⁴⁴⁸⁷⁰ He died in 1982.⁴⁴⁸⁷⁰ Buried in New Hope Church Cemetery, Bulloch Co., GA. Though the name is most unusual, the name may be a transcription problem in the WPA work. This person seems to be a candidate for the Ambrose E. or Andrew Temple(s) families.

Jose TEMPLE²⁹⁷⁹⁶ was born in 1860 in Lee Co., MS.²⁷⁷⁵⁴ Born after Aug 1860. She appeared in the census in September 1870 in Shannon, Lee, MS.²⁷⁷⁵⁴ Jose is assigned to this family in Temple People, but the same source that was used in that volume reported only the other five children. The assignment appears to be based on the 1870 census of Lee County, MS. Parents: Judge Littleton W. (Judge) (Little) TEMPLE-17000 and Elidiah (Lydia) POWELL-17010.
