Michael TEMPLE24760,39566 was born in 1730.24760 He died in 1781 at the age of 51 in Frederick, Frederick, MD.24760 Date is uncertain. Relationship of Michael and Conrad is conjecture based on the number of events they shared and other data. Research by Faith Stern shows that Michael was the father of Michael who married Catherina Margaretha Haener according to the records of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Frederick, MD. His association with Conrad Temple is based on Michael, the son, having been a witness at the marriage of Conrad and Maria Margaretha Balt.

Spouse: UNKNOWN-65872. UNKNOWN and Michael TEMPLE were married before 1756. Children were: Michael TEMPLE-21442, Conrad TEMPLE-28753.

Michael TEMPLE11658,39567,40678 was born in 1756 in Frederick, Frederick, MD.24760 He served in the military about 1780.24760,24765 Said to have served in the Revolution, from an extract contributed by Roy E. Lacy to Govt. Issue "Records & Pioneer Families" 1972, provided by Faith Stern. He appeared in the census in 1800 in Frederick, Frederick, MD.86045 Appears with 2 males under 10; 3 males between 10 and 16; 1 male between 16 and 26; 1 male (himself) between 26 and 45. Also, 1 female under 10; 1 female 10-16; and 1 female 26-45. Michael moved about 1804 in Madison Twp., Butler, OH.11658,24760,39567 Said to have come to Butler County, OH, in 1804 in a covered wagon and a fourteen horse team. He died between February 1830 and March 1830 at the age of 74 in Madison Twp., Butler, OH.10677,11658,24760 Will probated 2 Mar 1830 in Butler County. Buried in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Possibly the bastard son of Susannah Temple and Abraham Whitaker.

The Miami River flowed through the Michael Temple farm at one time. In a deposition, Norman Pearman, of Chicago, a Loy cousin, on September 4, 1939, interviewed Harry Temple, who lived at 1306 Germantown Road, Middletown, Ohio, with his sister Mary Ann Temple Harlan (b.10 Nov 1875) widow of D. Harlan.

In pioneer days flat boats were loaded with grain, flour, liquor, stock, etc, and floated down to New Orleans. A loading pier was located on the Miami River on the Michael Temple farm, through which the Miami flowed at the time. Gottleib Temple, who was a young man at the time helped to float one of these boats to New Orleans. To return to their homes it was necessary to ride horses, walk and use whatever means they could command to get back to their homes. Gottleib, on his return trip, rode a horse until it gave out and then walked the balance of the distance. When he got home he was very weak in body from the arduous trip. The neighbors all gathered to hold a party and celebration for his safe return. The excitement was too great for his weakened condition and in the middle of the celebration Gottleib fell over and died from a weakened heart. He was buried in a family plot on the old homestead near Poast Town, where later were also buried the bodies of Michael and Margaret (Heffner) Temple, his parents and five others of the family. In later years these eight bodies were all taken up and reinterred in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Poast Town, Ohio on a lot now marked by a gravestone of Jacob Temple, who was the son of Michael and Margaret Temple. The bodies were taken up from their original place by Perry Temple, Father of Harry Temple, and his brother Theodore. Harry Temple was at school at the time but went down and saw the remains after returning from school and remembers very well all about the incident. He said some of the clothing was still intact at the time.

Charline Robinson Kvapil provided an analysis of his origins as follows: Records of Michael Temple, born ca 1760, begin in Frederick, Frederick Co., MD with the Evangelical Lutheran Church registers written in German. From this we are not to assume that Michael was German, or even Lutheran. For as Pastor Frederick W. Weiser who translated and edited the registers has pointed out, Germans lived alongside British settlers in nearly all of the colonies, but the earliest concentration of Germans in western Maryland was in Frederick County along the Monocacy valley flowing toward the Potomac on the corridor to western Maryland and to western Virginia and North Carolina.

That Michael's name was spelled TEMPEL is consistent with the fact that the pastor who wrote the record spelled it as a German would, and depending on the accuracy of the translation, we find either spelling. Neither does this indicate whether Michael was German or English.

Furthermore, 'early American congregations often shared a ministry with a dozen other congregations in its parish,' so that events recorded in the registers may have taken place elsewhere. That explains why Michael and Margaret's marriage, and the baptisms of some of their children are shown as in both the Middletown Evangelical Lutheran Church and the church in Frederick. Weiser says that it is not possible to sort them out. And we note that son Peter and daughter Catherine were baptized in the Reformed Church in Frederick. Parents simply made no great distinction in the Reformation controversy; and, no doubt, choice of church was a matter of convenience to the frontier mother. In fact, mother Margaret was the sole sponsor of Catherine's baptism. Parents: Michael TEMPLE-26024 and UNKNOWN-65872.
