William has reference number RLT # F.16783 William TEMPLE was born between 1765 and 1784.4366 He appeared in the census in 1810 in Wooford Co., KY.4366 Enumerated with 1 female 26-45, 2 males 0-10, and 2 females 0-10. I think it is likely he is related to Captain Andrew Temple, b abt 1750. William TEMPLE was born about 1770 in Carteret Co., NC.1815 He managed the farm of John Koen between 1777 and 1780 in Pasquotank Co., NC.1815 William managed the plantation of John Koen when the latter fought under Gen. Washington in the Revolution. When Koen returned, he married William's sister, Susannah. He lived in Beaufort, Carteret, NC in 1784.1815 William lived in Charleston, Charleston, SC in 1790.1815 He lived in Carteret Co., NC about 1791.1815 Returned to Carteret Co. after the death of his father. He purchased land in 1793 in Carteret Co., NC.1815 Deed dated 1 November 1793 revealed that William purchased the one-half share (28 acres) of Thomas' (son) for 50 pounds. This deed further stated that the land had been received by William and Thomas from "Thomas Temple, our father" . . . "by heirship", (deed also states that Thomas (father) received the land from Jonathan Hibbs and land patent was originally part of land patent for 100 acres dated 20 April 1741). The deed was signed by Thomas (son) and Nancy (wife) Temple, witnessed by Calos Longest and Thomas Bareat. William involved in land transaction in 1794 in Carteret Co., NC.1815 Deed dated 19 November 1794 indicates that William and Thomas (son) Temple sold a parcel of land received from father Thomas Temple to Ananias Nelson for $80.00. The parcel was described as 200 acres lying in Carteret County between Bogue Sound and Newport River on the side of __ Branch abutting Benjamin Oglesby's land. He appeared in the census in 1800 in Carteret Co., NC.1815 William Temple, son of Thomas, was head of one household and was listed as being 26 to 45 years old. The household also had a female 26 to 45 years old (probably wife), a male child less than 10 years old, and a female child less than 10 years old. (William Temple is mentioned in the county records as a witness to the will of Johnathan Hibbs on 3 December 1799, as witness to Benjamin/Joseph Oglesby deed November 1800, and appointed by court to partition land on Gales Creek 6 December 1810. Also mentioned in the "North Carolina Gazette" of New Bern on 15 July 1784 as having a letter in the New Bern Post Office and being a resident of Beaufort. It is possible that this William Temple could have been a seafaring man as mentioned in the Oglesby's story. Records of Barbados (island in the West Indies) reveal that a William Temple was born to a Mr. Temple 27 September 1791. Barbados records also indicate that an Elizabeth Ann daughter of Joseph and Ann Temple was baptized 14 April 1781, son James was baptized 26 April 1788. He appeared in the census in 1810 in Camden Co., NC.41074 Enumerated with 1 male 26-45 (himself), 1 male 10-16, 1 0-10; 1 female 26-45, 1 0-10. William died in 1816 in NC. His 1816 will mentions Dorcas as his loving wife, to whom he left all his land, stock and cattle to raise their children, William and Daniel. Probably the youngest son of Thomas. It is not known whether the sons listed are by Dorcas or an unknown prior marriage. Parents: Thomas TEMPLE-4457 and Luraney (Fannie) MC DANIEL-4503. Spouse: Dorcas OGLESBY-42069. Dorcas OGLESBY and William TEMPLE were married between 1800 and 1810. Dorcas married William Temple ( her stepson ), between 1800-1810. Fate of William's first wife and children listed in the 1800 census is discussed below under paragraph "William and Sarah". Dorcas is described in William's 1816 will as his loving wife, and he left to her all his land, stock and cattle to raise his children, William (born 1803) and Daniel. (It is unknown if these children were by Dorcas or previous wife.) The 1810 Census listed William as 26 to 45 years old so he apparently died young. Children were: William TEMPLE-24795, Daniel TEMPLE-47656. William TEMPLE51991 was born between 1770 and 1780 in VA.34836 He appeared in the census in 1820 in Davidson Co., TN.34836 Enumerated with 1 male over 45, 1 10-16, and 3 0-10; 1 female 26-45. William died in December 1833 in TN.51992 Will proved 2 Dec 1833. Records indicate he enlisted as a private in Captain Sheppard's Troop of Cavalry in the Virginia Militia, and remained a private for his term of service. Relationship with elder Liston is assumed based on timing of military service, and the sequential proximity of his index card in the military records, and on their enumeration together in the 1830 census. William TEMPLE was born before 1774 in Carteret Co., NC.1587 Dating of birth is difficult. Daniel appears in the 1790 census of Halifax County, NC, as a male over age 16. If so, then it is not clear who the male age 0-10 is living with William and Dorcas in the 1800 census of Carteret County. We know that William's will named only Dorcas, Daniel and William. It may be possible that the child in 1800 was the son of either Daniel or William. Parents: William TEMPLE-22306 and Dorcas -33591. William TEMPLE18239 was born about 1775 in England. It was probably rejected because, on 15 Dec 1806, he received a share of 534 acres from John Berry. He appeared in the census in 1810 in Amite Co., MS.51995,51996 Enumerated with 1 male over 21, 4 males under 21, 1 female over 21 and 1 female under 21. William died before 1850. He has reference number RLT # U373.1311 In the 1850 census, there is no distinction between his siblings and his children, so it is difficult to know which children are assigned to whom. However, I suspect he and his wife gave erroneous ages. I believe they are the same people enumerated in 1860 as William and Avis, but they were born in 1787/1797 respectively in 1860. Enumerated next door to Oliver S. Temple in 1850, indicating some relationship. Oliver S. was young enough to be his son, assuming a birth before the 1810 given in 1850. Spouse: Avis -73598. William TEMPLE was born on 1 April 1793 in MA.22,24462 Gave VT in 1870, and MA in 1860. The place is uncertain. Sally Eaton's research and family records indicates MA is most likely: "William’s birth date is from family records. While some of William’s kids say in later censuses that he was born in CT, NH and VT, in the 1860 US census for Wilton, Will Co, IL, William TEMPLE (misspelled KEMPEL) says he was born in Mass. His father sold land in Bethlehem, MA, in February 1793 but didn’t buy land in CT until 1794. In the 1870 US census for Bloomfield, Fillmore Co, MN, his birth state is shown as VT, but his son probably answered for him. We know that he was not born in VT because the family didn’t move there until after 1801." Temple People gives him the lineage from Major Temple, but he was from John b 1758 England and Elizabeth Marshall. I think it is unlikely he is the William Temple who is buried in Old Bethel Cemetery, Sparta, IL, because that man's birth date was 10 Sep 1787.
