His parents were both from PA. He seems in all likelihood to be Samuel A. Temple who married Mary Smithson Onion - his parents. However, the ages he and Mary gave in 1880, and the ages Mary reported in later censuses, indicate that they are 20 years younger than the latter people. He may have divorced or abandoned Sarah, but we have no records either way. We know she retained her name as Temples until at least 1860.

Identification of Samuel Allen as the father of Samuel Temple(s) b 1808 is circumstantial at best. He is associated based on timing and location, and therefore this needs proof. The timing is such tat the younger Samuel might not be the son of Sarah Smith. Since Samuel Allen did not live to the 1850 census, thereby revealing a better estimate of his age, his identification as the son in the 1810 census born between 1784 and 1790 is assumed, and may be very wrong. Therefore, it is possible that Samuel Allen and Samuel b 1808 were actually the same person, and not father and son. Winnie Lavenia Temple's genealogy of the family has Samuel father of James b 1810 as having married a Sarah. This was true, however, for two generations of Samuel Temples, with Sarah Smith and Sarah Milton, and this could be part of the source of the confusion. Samuel Forest TEMPLE¹⁴¹¹³ was born in 1870 in Paducah, Mc Cracken, KY.^20593,51542 He appeared in the census in June 1880 in Ballard Co., KY.⁵¹⁵⁴² Enumerated with his uncle Samuel Griffin. Samuel Griffin's wife at the time was a second wife, named Martha J., ae 47. So, for him to be the uncle of Samuel Temple, one of the sisters of Richard Webb Temple had to have been Samuel Griffin's first wife. That means either Susanna Green, Margaret Ann, Martha or Caroline married him first, before 1850, as all were dead by the 1850 census. Before 1893 he was a farmer in Ballard Co., KY.²⁰⁵⁹³ Samuel died about 1914. Parents: Richard Webb TEMPLE-21990 and Sarah F. STRATTON-25060. Parents: R.W. TEMPLE-30458 and Lucy STRATTON-30459.

Col. Samuel Francis TEMPLE^16356,28840 was born on 14 September 1742 in Chesterfield Co., VA.^12624,28840 He served in the military in 1777 in King William Co., VA.^47228,51543 Served as a Lieutenant and Captain in Caroline County Militia in 1777. Appears in pay records dated 23 Sep 1777. Before 1798 he was a partner in the firm of Benjamin Temple and Company.⁴⁷⁵³⁵ Samuel died on 23 July 1798 in Caroline Co., VA.^{12624,28840,47983} His son John was his estate's administrator. However, the estate remained unsettled for some time, eventually winding up in chancery court, where it was partially settled in Aug 1801. Apparently the final issue had to do with the status of two minor children - Mariah (sic) who would seem to be Maria b 1786 and being under 21, a minor; and Ann, who also being a minor could not be otherwise identified, but might be Elizabeth (Temple) Redd. In later court proceedings, it might be that the earlier naming of Ann was mistakenly shortened, and that she was Ann Temple Threshly, Samuel's granddaughter. Still in chancery court in Aug 1802, the court decided how to divide up the land and a considerable monetary estate. The land was 1338 acres, and the money at 19,925 pounds and change. The land was divided roughly equally into 133 1/4 acre plots. Additionally, numerous slaves were divided up among Samuel's children. Parents: Colonel Joseph TEMPLE-4447 and Anne ARNOLD-16128.
