George Henry TEMPLE9802,38393 was born on 15 February 1837 in Gilsum, Cheshire, NH.8763,9802,9805,12454,38394,38395 Many sources give the place as Keene, NH. He appeared in the census in August 1850 in Alstead, Cheshire, NH.38394 He appeared in the census before 1860 in Alstead, Cheshire, NH.2176 In June 1860 George was a laborer in Alstead, Cheshire, NH.38395 He served in the military between 1861 and 1864.40399,40400 He enlisted 17 Oct 1861 at Alstead, NH as a private in Company E, 6th NH Infantry. He served until expiration of his service and was discharged 27 Nov 1864 at Pegram House, VA. We also know of his service indirectly, since the story of his friend Leroy White, is recorded, and goes as follows:

"Thomas Leroy White had the honor of being the first volunteer in the state to enlist in the War of the Rebellion, enlisting in Keene, N. H., with the three months' men, and afterwards in the Sixth Regt. N. H. Vols. At one time, he had his cartridge bag shot into, which fell to the ground. At another time with a friend, George Henry Temple, while on the retreat from the second battle of Bull Run, a ball passed to the ground between them." In June 1870 he was a farmer in Alstead, Cheshire, NH.17587 Identification of George Henry as the George enumerated with Thomas and Sarah Temple requires confirmation. George granted a Civil War pension dure to malaria on 17 June 1882 in Keene, Cheshire, NH.40401 Pension number 211,621. He was ill with contracted malaria in 1897 in Oakham, Worcester, MA.40400 He admitted to the National Disabled Soldiers Home between 1901 and 1907 in Togus, Kennebec, ME.40400 He was admitted 11 Jan 1901 and was discharged at his own request 2 Jan 1907. He had heart problems, suffered from malaria, hemorrhoids and digestive problems. When discharged in 1907, he claimed he was a widower. George died on 29 December 1906 in Wilton, Hillsborough, NH.21,9802 Rise of the Temples says he died in 1893, which he did not. Other research says he died in Wilton, NH on 29 Dec 1906, which he did not, since he self-discharged himself from the Disabled Soldiers Home on 2 Jan 1907. He may be buried in Greenlawn Cemetery, Keene, NH, but this may be the wrong George Temple. It seems highly likely that George Henry Temple did not have all the wives presented. His records while admitted in the National Disabled Soldiers Home between 1901 and 1907 leave no room for interpretation that he claimed he was a widower; his next of kin he claimed initially was Mrs. Lizzie A. Comstock of Worcester, MA, who may have been his fourth cousin through Richard Temple, and who must have died before 1907, because she was stricken and Mrs. Allen M. Banks of 44 7th Avenue, Lowell, MA, replaced her. Since he was discharged voluntarily in 1907, he was quite alive, for at least some additional time, and did not appear to be married. That indicates that Carrie Sawyer and Etta Ellis may have been wives of some other George Temple. Also, they were in a different part of NH, when he claimed he was returning to Nashua, NH upon his discharge. Parents: George William Foster (Foster) TEMPLE-5903 and Mary Fisk TEMPLE-5908.

George Henry (George) TEMPLE was born in August 1864 in Holland.20419,27908,27910,27912 He immigrated in 1889.20419,27908,27912 He was naturalized in 1890.20419,27908 Year might be 1893. In June 1900 George was a farmer in Clyde, Whiteside, IL.27912 In April 1910 he was a farmer in York Twp., Carroll, IL.27910 In January 1920 he was a farmer in York Twp., Carroll, IL.27908 In January 1920 George was a railroad laborer in Fulton, Whiteside, IL.20419 The enumerator seriously messed up this family in 1920. Enumerated with the Temple family were some children of the next door neighbors' but listed as children of George and the person listed as his wife. The person listed as his wife was Bessie, ae 24, who must be a daughter, since George's wife seems to be Jennie, who immigrated and naturalized at the same time as George, but she is listed as "mother." On top of that, a number of people about 20 years younger than George are all listed as brothers, but they must be brothers of Bessie, not of George - so they must actually be sons of George and Jennie. I think that Bessie was indeed a wife, but her husband is absent, and further, she was with her parents as a result of very recent (within the month) childbirth. He died on 23 November 1928 in Fulton, Whiteside, IL.27909,40411 This family had an interesting time in the 1920-1930 censuses. At one time I thought there were two families with extremely similar data, and now believe that it was one family with two distinctly different occupations. At times, they were railroad workers, and then working on a farm. The similarities are simply too extensive for these to be different families. The enumeration as farmers in York, IL took place on 26 and 27 Jan 1920, while the enumeration as railroaders was on 14 Jan in Fulton, IL.

George J. TEMPLE32509 was born on 3 June 1834 in West Jefferson, Madison, OH.626,5049,8092,11832,20126 Gave his age as 23 in 1860. His birth date is based on my conclusion that the enumerator in 1910 erred and placed his age in the box for years of marriage. He appeared in the census in July 1860 in Jackson Twp., Union, OH.8092 He served in the military between 1861 and 1864. Served in Company H., 19th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry. George died on 28 December 1993 in Sandusky, Erie, OH.16764,40429 His parents were both from Germany. By his location in Sandusky, OH in 1903, he seems associated somehow with the family of George and Elizabeth (Fitzhum) Tempel or Harry Paul and Olive Temple. While George and Elizabeth were both from Germany, he did not appear with them in the 1910 or 1920 censuses. It is possible, but unlikely, that he is a grandson.

George John TEMPLE40434 was born on 4 December 1874 in NY.3032,3034,13919,13921,13922,40435 Gave NJ in 1900. Gave a wide range of dates for his birth, depending on the census. In 1910, he claimed to be 35, and in 1930 he claimed a date of 1878, both of which are consistent with his appearing in the 1880 census. However, his claim in 1900 for a Jun 1884 may be correct for the month, but is out of line with his being in the 1880 census. Consequently, the year needs proof. The SSDI gave Dec 1874, which seems the most solid of any source. He appeared in the census in June 1880 in Stanwin, Oneida, NY.3032 In June 1900 he was a horse shoer in Rome, Oneida, NY.3034 In April 1910 George was a horse shoer in Seattle, King, WA.13921 In 1918 he was a blacksmith for Skinner Eddy # 1 in Seattle, King, WA.13922 He sailed to Wales in September 1919 in Rome, Oneida, NY.40434 In April 1930 George was an auto body company operator in Cleveland, Cuyahoga, OH.13919 He lived in Hinckley, Medina, OH in 1968.40435 He died on 2 April 1968 in Euclid, Cuyahoga, OH.40435,40436 Parents: John R.
