A clue might be in his wife's surname. Doris Marie Bastian, daughter of (Unknown) and Pearl (Temple) Bastion of Toledo, OH, married a Roop. That might indicate a close relationship between Charles and Pearl's parents, Charles Emory and Margaret (Dick) Temple. Alternatively, his name was only associated with one Charles Temple in Knox Co., OH in 1900, but he was the son of James and Eva (Kiser) Temple, b 1884. It was unlikely that he was her husband, but not impossible. However, since he was unmarried in 1900, they must have married after the census, making her 29 and him at most 17. In 880. there was only one Charles Temple in Knox Co., OH, and that was the son of George and Sarah (Williams) Temple. However, the timing of his marriage to Lydia Stull makes it difficult to make a case for this.

There is only one Charles known in TN in 1860 or 1870 as well, but it is hard to correlate them as the same individual.
